Man, whatever happened to Scandal? They released one EP and one studio album, then disappeared into 80's obscurity. The punched hard in the early 80's with songs such as Goodbye to You and The Warrior and left a lot of people wanting more...That they never got.
Scandal's first album, the self titled EP, featured the first hit noted above - Goodbye to You. It's interesting to note the album itself was released in a limited run on both vinyl and cassette, but never saw a CD release. As such, fans of the song who missed the initial release were limited to catching it on the radio.
However, this wouldn't have been an easy feat as the song didn't exactly blow audiences away when it was first released. In truth, Goodbye to You only managed to debut at number eighty-six on the charts in 1982 and it disappeared the following week. It did manage to pique some slight interest with the second chart topper, Love's Got A Line on You. By slight interest, I mean it debuted on the charts at number eighty-seven in April of 1983 and much like Goodbye to You, disappeared the following week.
It wouldn't be until 1984 that the band would finally find success with the top ten song, The Warrior from their album, Warrior (not The Warrior, just Warrior - Unlike the song). Stop there though. I'm not hear to talk about that album. Not today. Instead, I want to stay focused on their EP.The album's not bad, but in all honesty, the only stand out track is Goodbye to You. Now, I'm not saying the remaining four tracks are bad, not by any means. They're just not catchy. The key to a good song is etched in getting stuck in someone's head. As I finished the album and jumped into another I can't honestly say I remember any of the other tracks from the EP. Mind you, that's not from failure to listen. They were just there. Noise if you will. Good noise, but noise nonetheless.
Fortunately these days, tracking down the album isn't limited to just vinyl and cassette. While it was never "officially" released on CD as the EP, all five tracks were released on the 2006 compilation album, We Are the 80's: Scandal. The CD also contained the B side to the singe Goodbye to You, All My Life. The CD also contains half of the tracks from Warrior, but you can still buy this particular album on CD - So no need to settle for half of them.
A fun fact about the band - Singer / Songwriter Jon Bon Jovi himself was the guitarist in the group for a very brief period in 1983. Guess he wasn't to sure his, or rather, the band's first studio album, the self titled Bon Jovi, would be a success. Hey, always good to have a backup plan.
