Title: Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man

Highlights

  • The story takes place immediately after the events of the last issue, and the story arc takes place at some point between the events that unfold in Web Of Spider-Man 11
  • First appearance of Anne, Ivan Snyder, and Timmy
  • Sin-Eater not only realizes he missed his shot, but that it wasn't J. Jonah Jameson, but instead Betty Leeds
  • Sin-Eater learns that she works for Jameson, and informs her she can give him a message when he joins her in death - Betty responds by stabbing him in the leg with a letter opener
  • Spider-Man bursts through the window of Jameson's home, saving her
  • Spider-Man web's Sin-Eater's gun, and yanks it from his hands
  • Sin-Eater informs him that his gun is the voice of God, and Spider-Man breaks it in half over his knee
  • Spider-Man unmasks Sin-Eater, and when Carter apologizes, our hero looses it on him, with every fist telling him to apologize directly to the people he killed
  • Daredevil senses that Spider-Man is out of control, and rushes in to stop him
  • When Spider-Man tells him to get out of his way, Daredevil tells him he'll have to go through him if he wants Carter that badly - Spider-Man does, and punches Daredevil through a window
  • Goading Spider-Man, Daredevil draws him away from Sin-Eater, and leads him away, the two continuing to fight, until Daredevil finally knocks him out
  • As word spreads about Sin-Eater's identity, both the underworld, regular Joe's, and the cops get riled up over the news
  • The crimes of the Santa Claus Burglar continue
  • An angry J. Jonah Jameson returns to the Bugle, hiring a man who's in his way simply to fire him and tell him to get out of the way
  • Peter fills him and Ned in on what happened with Sin-Eater
  • Reference is made to The Amazing Spider-Man 271
  • Aunt May informs Peter that Ernie Popchik left in a hurry, and took his gun with him, and asks Peter to look out for him
  • While on a subway train, three thugs approach Ernie, and attempt to rob him, he responds by opening fire on them
  • We get the origin of Stan's time in S.H.I.E.L.D., and learn of the strength and agility drugs they pumped him full of, which may have drove him mentally insane, while also making him prone to violence
  • Daredevil meets Spider-Man on the roof above the police station, and tries to talk sense into him
  • Mobs of people protest outside the police station demanding justice
  • The mob goes nuts, trying to get to Carter, and while Spider-Man refuses to help, Daredevil jumps into the fray, only to be overwhelemed
  • As Spider-Man turns his back on Daredevil, the hero cries out for help, "Peter!"
  • Spider-Man swoops in and save Daredevil, and together they get Carter loaded on a police wagon
  • Back on the rooftops, Daredevil tells Peter his true identity, and the two go to Peter's apartment to talk face to face
  • Aunt May calls Peter, and informs him that Ernie has been arrested for shooting the three men, who fortunately aren't dead
  • Matt Murdock takes the phone, and tells May he'll help her get a lawyer at no cost because he wants to show Peter that the system can work

  • Origin of Magma
  • Magma says that he's the reason Mount St. Helens erupted

  • Villain of the week material at its best
Oddities
  • Magma fills the cave with gas to stop our heroes, and despite knocking out enemies wearing gas masks, Spider-Man never takes one and puts it on, successfully succumbing to the gas in the process
  • Spider-Man makes a webbing bowling ball, and uses it to bowl over enemies
  • Magma has a room in his cave labeled as Quake Command Center - That's some goofiness right there to label rooms in your secret lair
