• Juggernaut heads to Korea, also intent on finding a birthday present for his friend, Black Tom
• Juggernaut steals the Ruby of Cyttorak, the gem which gave him his power
• The girls ask Peter to take photos of them for their modeling careers
• Juggernaut gives Tom the ruby, and when he touches it, it causes his muscles to instantly grow - Tom isn't happy with the transformation, and demands to be put back the way he was
• The two begin fighting, and Tom realizes that the ruby transferred half of the Juggernaut's power to him, which in turn diminished Juggernaut by said half
• The X-Men arrive to help Spider-Man against the villainous duo
• Rogue absorbs Black Tom's power, making her a juggernaut
• Rogue touches Juggernaut, and absorbs his power too, but it drives her mad
• A brief telling of Juggernaut's origin
• With all the power returned to the gem, Juggernaut grabs it, restoring him to full strength - He then hurls the gem into orbit where nobody will ever find it again
• Peter's photos of the fight are all ruined, but he's able to sell the photos of the girls

• Cannonball buys a hat from Saks for his mom, and proceeds to try to keep it safe during the battle
• Reference is made to Marvel Team-Up Annual 6, Marvel Super Hero Secret Wars
• Peter gives Robbie a handful of photos of Spider-Man, but he rejects them all telling the photographer to focus on something else, like other heroes
• Spider-Man notices a blackout in Chelsea
• Incandescent Man grows larger and larger as he absorbs all the electricity around the city
• Cannonball accidentally breaks a fire hydrant, but the water that comes from it starts to shrink the Incandescent Man
• Spider-Man snaps photos of the battle, showcasing Cannonball
• Cannonball dumps Incandescent Man into the Hudson River, extinguishing him
• Cannonball commits to trying harder to being a better student for Professor Xavier
• Spider-Man tells Cannonball that he did great, and bets a photographer took photos of him, but the mutant says he hopes not because it could reveal his identity, and ruin Xavier's school
• Despite needing the money, Spider-Man throws the roll of film into the river

• Tony finds a secret tunnel with weird jets inside
• Spider-Man sneaks into the hospital room of Black Abbott, only to inadvertently have the room hit by a missile from an unknown enemy
• Black Abbott's origin is told, and the man in the hospital turns out to be one of his apostles
• At the Baxter Building, Johnny shows his girlfriend Alicia the symbiote in its prison, and she says she feels sorry for it being trapped in a cage on a strange planet
• Black Abbott's apostle convinces Thor to take him to his master's hideout to defeat the villain, but it turns out to be a trick, and Thor is ambushed by Abbott and his other apostles
• Tony sees Spider-Man, and tells him about the secret tunnel, leading Spider-Man to Black Abbott
• Spider-Man frees Thor, and after he recovers, he blasts all of Abbott's apostles with a blast of lightening
• As Abbott flees, he sees Tony, and takes him hostage, but only briefly, as Spider-Man rescues him

Highlights

• Spider-Man is swinging around the city when two jet craft soar past him, the one behind releasing a missile
• Spider-Man is able to stop the explosive, but in doing so gets knocked about by the concussion of the blast
• Human Torch saves Spider-Man from a fall, and then soars off to help the pilot of the craft being chased, which was just blown out of the sky
• Johnny Storm has moved out on his own to an apartment
• The mysterious Mr. Abbott shows up at Peter's apartment, and tries to use hypnotism on him to get Peter to join his special peace project
• Peter resists the attempt thanks to the warning of his spider sense, but decides to still go with him, pretending to be under the man's command
• In the hospital, the dying pilot tells Torch about Black Abbott, his plans, and his secret base
• Human Torch infiltrates the base, but is quickly overcome by a pair of guards
• Human Torch gets hypnotized by Black Abbott, and Spider-Man is only able to break it by making him angry
• There are two Black Abbott's, and Spider-Man asks if the other is Black Costello
• In the Baxter Building, the imprisoned symbiote continues to hammer its fists against the glass, a futile effort to escape

• Spider-Man finally breaks the hypnotism on Torch by telling him he's glad his sister lost her baby because he'd be a terrible uncle - Dang, that's rough

• First appearance of Tony, Black Abbott, the Black Apostles, the Butcher-Dogs, Deke, Tom, and Jesse
• Jack Monroe helps Peter fight off the Butcher-Dogs, and then invites him to join him at the movies to see Rio Bravo
• Tony, a kid who wants to join Deke and the Butcher-Dogs steels the package of artwork with Jack was supposed to deliver - Artwork drawn by Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America
• Peter and Jack split up to chase Tony, and when they do, Peter changes to Spider-Man, and Jack to Nomad - Neither know each other's secret
• Spider-Man accidentally lasso's Nomad while aiming for the fleeing kid
• Taskmaster is meeting with various thugs, offering to train them to work for Black Abbott
• Reference is made to Marvel Team-Up 103, and 140
• Even after Taskmaster and Black Abbott overwhelm and defeat Spider-Man, and Nomad, one of the thugs decides he wants out
• Black Abbott first tries to use his psychic poweres to bring the thug back in line, but when he resists, Abbott turns him into a smoldering pile of ash with his burning touch
• Nomad throws Taskmaster's shield at Black Abbott, just as he's about to touch Spider-Man with his burning touch - The reflected powers turn Abbot's hand and arm to ash
• Tony gets stuck in a burning building, set ablaze during the fighting - Rather than help him, Deke runs off, leaving Nomad to rescue the kid himself
• Tony decides he no longer wants to be a gang member, and asks Nomad to return the drawings he stole

Low Points

• Deciphering the Spider-Man timeline
• This issue must occur at some point during the events of The Amazing Spider-Man 258 - They must because at the end of that issue, Peter no longer has the symbiote suit
• There are two possible timeframes:
• After Mary Jane Watson runs from Peter's apartment, and the Black Cat arrives, the story cuts to Thomas Fireheart, AKA Puma, returning to his office headquarters in Hartsdale, New Mexico
• The day after the symbiote once again envelopes a sleeping Peter Parker, and takes him out into the night, but prior to Peter going to the Fantastic Four's headquarters
• Peter references both Mary Jane knowing about his secret identity, and being exhausted, making this latter option the more feasible
• This would also puts the events of Marvel Team-Up 146 occurring after Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual 4
• Because the events of Marvel Team-Up 146 are sandwiched in between the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man 258, nothing of any real importance occurs in this story

Oddities

• Though we won't find out for several more issues that the symbiote is highly sensitive to noise, it's odd that it doesn't react now when Taskmaster hits Spider-Man with a sonic arrow, so loud that even Spider-Man says it's splitting his head

Highlights

• First appearance of Barbara Scarlotti, Lawrence Eiben, Harry, Rusty, Billy, and Phil
• First appearance of the Cleveland Convention Center, Cleveland Justice Center, Little Italy, and Scarlotti Bakery
• Spider-Man is headed for Cleveland for the 26th Annual Convention of Electronics Engineers and Innovators
• Mark Scarlotti is also at the convention looking for a job, but his past is deterring this from happening
• When Mark see's Iron Man, he thinks back to when the hero defeated him as his alter ego, Whiplash, and again when he changed to Blacklash
• Mark thinks this would be a good opportunity to catch Iron Man off guard, defeat him, and in turn get back in with the Maggia - He decides against the thought, and instead leaves
• Mark returns home to his parent's bakery, and asks his mother to give him a job - She tells him no, and that he has to leave
• Mark gets a beer poured on his head at a local bar, and then he's thrown out
• Mark takes a job with the Maggia to take care of Lawrence Eiben for thwarting their hacking ring
• First, he returns to the bar as Blacklash to extract revenge for the bullying
• Blacklash gets defeated again by the duo of Iron Man and Spider-Man
• Mark's lawyer attempts to get him to plea insanity - Mark refuses, and when he asks about his mom, is informed she isn't coming, and wants nothing to do with him
• As Mark's lawyer leaves, he shows that he clearly isn't okay in the head, as the story wraps up with him talking to himself about his mom coming to see him as a tears fall from his eyes

• First appearance of the Elysian, and Mahko Clan, and their homes, the Elysian Citadel and Mahko Camp
• Spider-Man and Starfox team up to restore Captain Marvel, who is trapped in her energy form
• Together, the heroes travel to another dimension to track down and stop P.R.I.D.E.'s generator, which they believe is causing Marvel's entrapment
• The Elysian's are using the generator to turn their camp invisible, protecting them from the war hungry Mahko Clan
• The air in the dimension they're in has made Starfox ill, leaving Spider-Man to have to fight Will-Killer
• Will-Killer falls off a cliff while trying to smash Spider-Man with a giant rock
• With Will-Killer dead, the Elysian's no longer need the protection the generator offers, and agree to destroy it
• The heroes return to their dimension, and find that destroying the generator worked, restoring Captain Marvel's ability to change between her human and energy forms again

• During the fight, the villains steal the technafoil from the Nassau County Science Exposition
• P.R.I.D.E. attempts to steal the windstone from the Maritime Museum
• Captain Marvel loses her ability to transform into energy when the villains use their vanishing device, causing her to fall out of the sky - She transforms back to light just mere seconds before hitting the ground
• P.R.I.D.E. has built a device that will wipe millions of people off the Earth
• The villains attack Avengers headquarters, and manage to get the windstone
• P.R.I.D.E. (Population Reduction by Inter-Dimensional Expulsion) has built a generator that will transport millions to other dimensions, thus saving the world from overpopulation
• With the destruction of P.R.I.D.E.'s generator Captain Marvel gets stuck in her energy form

Comics Corner: Marvel Team-Up 141

Highlights

• First appearance of the symbiote suit in Marvel Team-Up
• First appearance of Frank Arnold, Sheena Rogers, Ainsley Wilkins, Detective Rollins, Chip, and Roscoe
• This story picks up with Matt Murdock still trying to prove his client from issue 140 didn't kill the pawnbroker
• The cops press the thug, Cool Breeze, to confess to the pawnbrokers killing, but he refuses to admit to something he didn't do
• Matt Murdock monitors his heart rate, confirming for himself that the thug is telling the truth
• Reference is made to Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars 1, and 2
• Frank Arnold has bought the pawnshop from the previous, now deceased owner's widow, and oddly, he's surrounded himself with the very thugs that Daredevil and Black Widow think killed the man
• While Black Widow infiltrates the pawn shop, Daredevil returns to the gang's hideout
• Daredevil learns that his client, Zelnick isn't totally innocent - He was part of the gang who shot the pawnbroker, and was set up by the other members for holding out percentages of fenced goods, and being a thorn in their side
• Matt Murdock confronts him with this, and is told that regardless, he's not a killer, and he, Matt, needs to do his job to prove him innocent
• An abridged version of Spider-Man and Curt Connor's return to New York is told, with reference being made to The Amazing Spider-Man 252 for the full story
• Peter Parker returns to the Daily Bugle, and when Ben Urich asks him where he's been, he tells him the truth, "On a planet in a distant galaxy fighting for the salvation of the universe."
• Ben simply responds, "Uh-huh."
• Peter learns that the thug he captured in the previous issue wasn't the killer of the pawnbroker
• Spider-Man loves his new black suit, but nobody recognizes him
• Daredevil makes a deal with Kingpin, and finds out that Mr. Arnold killed the previous owner of the shop
• Spider-Man finds out about the deal, and chastises Daredevil for not remembering that he's supposed to be a hero
• Matt Murdock gets the confession he needs, and his client goes free - However, he tells the boy he probably would have been safer in jail with the target his gang will have on his back
• Matt Murdock is really reflecting on what Spider-Man said, and tells Black Widow he needs to go think
• Spider-Man is sad that Daredevil didn't say anything about his new suit

• Still no villains...Again, I know Spider-Man just got back from Battleworld, and this was a thread that needed to be tied up, but come on

• Juan Santiago is framed by his ex-gang members for shooting the pawnbroker
• Reference is made to The Amazing Spider-Man 250, and 251
• Spider-Man disappears in a flash of light in Central Park, tying this ending to that of The Amazing Spider-Man 251
  The gun found during the battle with the gang doesn't match the ballistics of the one that killed the pawn broker - Juan Santiago's case doesn't look like it will end well for the youth
• Daredevil vows to keep his promise to prove Juan is innocent

• I'm still working through the timeline of events, but I'll have it in just two more issues
• With exception of the epilogue, the events of this issue are completely immaterial

• Nick Fury's buddy, Dino Minelli is in trouble - The Maggia have kidnapped his fiancé, Julie Winston, using a giant robot to commit the crime
• Nick Fury tells him kidnapping is out of S.H.I.E.L.D.S. jurisdiction, and when his friend leaves in a huff, Fury confesses he did that so that Manelli wouldn't get in his way when he helped on his own
• Reference is made to The Amazing Spider-Man 249, and 250
• The spider tracer suddenly starts working, and Spider-Man races off to follow the signal
• Nick traces the missing girl to a yacht at the docks
• Spider-Man's tracer goes dead just as he reaches the docks, and he hears the gunfire from the battle below
• Julie Winston hits Spider-Man on the head with a bottle - she's the pawn in the Maggia's plan to ask Manelli for a ransom so large it will bankrupt him
• Manelli gets caught on the yacht, having found out where Nick was going, and all three men, as well as the girl are marked for death
• As soon as the giant robot is destroyed, Spider-Man's tracer beings working again - It was being somehow jammed by the mechanical circuits in the beast

• Sandman is really trying hard to live the straight and narrow path

• The Kingpin brings Montana, Fancy Dan, Ox, Hammer Harrison, and Snake Marston together to form The New Enforcers
• Under the guise of Sylvester Mann, Sandman rents an attic room at the home of the Cassada family, and heads to work at a produce warehouse
• Sandman finds that Mr. Cassada has been beaten up at his candy store for refusing to pay extortion money
• Spider-Man makes reference that Hobgoblin is still at large
• Sandman has a cathartic moment when he sees how acts of violence like he used to commit impact the every day people
• Sandman vows to deal with The (New) Enforcers for what they've done
• The New Enforcers defeat Spider-Man, and take him to their warehouse, where they proceed to continue kicking and beating him
• Sandman joins the fight, helping Spider-Man
• After the fight, Spider-Man confronts Sandman who tells him he's gone straight, but Spider-Man says he can't risk letting him go
• Sandman takes an explosion for Spider-Man, and the hero leaves wondering if Sandman truly has changed, or if he'll even recover from the explosion - He does, rather quickly

• Steyr sends his team to get a sample of Spider-Man's webbing, but by the time they get it back to his lab, it's dissolved
• Steyr's reasoning for wanting the webbing, to create a better bullet proof vest for the police, as a cop took a bullet for him during an attempted mugging, is noble, but he goes about it the wrong way
• Reference is made to Iron Man 156
• Steyr uses Wonder Man as a pawn to draw out Spider-Man, and sic Mauler on him
• Steyrs tries to torture Spider-Man for his web formula, but Wonder Man saves him

• The Jack of Hearts concedes that S.H.I.E.L.D. needs to contain him, but Marcy Kane says she wants to try to help him

• Anna, is brutal - She tells Doctor Faustus that he always fails, and she has no faith in him
• A clumsy Spider-Man trip while walking towards Reed Richards, but that's not like Spider-Man
• A flashback to Faustus's past reveals his mother, who looks strikingly similar to Anna
• It turns out that other than Reed, the Fantastic Four, including his son Franklin, and Spider-Man are all androids created by Faustus 
• Seeing him fail again, Anna abandons him - but was she ever really there? Or a figment of his fractured mind?
• Anna wasn't really there because she's his dead mother

• A bit too much of a sadistic mind bender for my liking

• This issue is also listed as the first appearance of Anna Fennhoff, even though she appeared in the prior

• The story just moves on past the missile that Spider-Man dodges - No explosion, no follow-up as to where it went, what it hit, what it blew up, just on with the main plot

• Roger knocks out White Rabbit, earning himself a part of the reward - Only a part because...
• ...Turns out that Eugene's dad was working under cover by joining up with White Rabbit to bring her in
