Comics Corner: Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man

Title: Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man
Issue Number: 103
Release Date: June 1985

Highlights

  • First appearance of Ashley Cranford
  • Ashley tells his college friends, Barry and Thomas, that he could run a hero ragged in a week, and when deciding which one to choose, he sees a bat fly by, and decides it's an omen, but then they opt for Spider-Man
  • After a couple days of literally blazing advertisements, Thomas decides he wants out of the plan
  • Ashley dresses as Blaze, and makes a video
  • A mysterious person takes the costume, and Blaze is no longer a joke, but an actual villain
  • Blaze blasts Thomas with his flame gun as the youth runs to save Spider-Man, burning his body severely
  • Reference is made that the story takes place prior to Fantastic Four 278
  • Thomas is not actually burned - Instead, it's a ruse he put in place with Peter Parker, and Johnny Storm to scare Ashley and Barry straight
Low Points
  • What in the heck is going on with Spider-Man stories as of late? These are straight up dumb
Oddities
  • Editor's Day Off: Panels with Spider-Man's eye lenses colored red
Rating (based on a 1 through 5 Stans grading system)

Comics Corner: Daredevil 103

Title: Daredevil
Issue Number: 103
Release Date: September 1973

Highlights

  • First appearance, and origin of Ramrod
  • Reference is made to Daredevil issue 100 and Marvel Team-Up issue 12
  • Ramrod makes an offhanded reference to Superman
Low Points
  • Continuation from Marvel Team-Up 12
  • Didn't particularly want to read a non-related Spider-Man title to continue a story that wasn't too good to begin with
  • Only serves to show that Marvel Team-Up issue 12 was a throw away story with the only purpose being to establish that Peter Parker was in San Francisco
Oddities
  • Ramrod loses his grip and falls just from seeing Black Widow is alive (he threw her off a building earlier), and that's the end of the story
Rating (based on a 1 through 5 Stans grading system)
