Comics Corner: Web Of Spider-Man 27

     

Title: Web Of Spider-Man

Highlights

  • The story takes place in an unspecified time period, but prior to Spider-Man's red and blue costume being destroyed
  • First appearance of Executive Service Inc. employees Headhunter, Rollie, and Lenny, and the death of the latter two
  • Additional first appearances from Lee Camino, Danny Camino, and Jackson
  • First appearance and death Anthony Delandri, Jim Klett, Ralph Maneri, Francis, Lenny, and Oscar
  • Lee Camino stands trial for the death of his friend, Anthony Delandri
    • He's found not guilty
  • As Camino steps foot on the courthouse steps to pronounce the verdict, we see a flashback of Delandri getting his head chopped off by Headhunter
  • Peter Parker and Ben Urich are among the reports there to get photos and the story
  • As Camino gets in his waiting car, he see's Headhunter standing in the crowd
    • Peter turns and snaps a photo of the thug, but in response to having his picture taken, Headhunter smashes Peter's camera
      • Peter in turn responds by hitting him with a spider tracer for later
  • Camino returns home to find his son Danny cleaning
    • Danny finds a contract that says if Camino's car business, Sterling Motors fails he has to give Executive Services Inc., his son
      • Yeah, because that makes sense
  • Camino hires extra security, but when he goes to tell his son to stay inside, he's already been kidnapped
  • Headhunter puts the boy in a chair, and surrounds it with a tape square, telling him there are bobby traps all around him, and to stay put if he wants to live
  • We get the origin of how Camino got into a position of power, essentially the contract with ESI
  • With the strike still in full effect, Camino is taken to see his son one last time before his contract is "terminated"
  • Spider-Man follows his tracer to ESI, and in doing so saves Camino from being offed
  • Rollie and Lenny go searching for Camino, but inadvertently get killed by Headhunter's explosive booby trap
    • The explosion knocks Danny down, and also drops a large file cabinet on his legs
  • Camino discovers the file cabinet on his son is full of bonds, and considers keeping a drawer full for himself - Even as fire surrounds his boy
  • Headhunter actually keeps the heads of his victims in jars - They get destroyed as Spider-Man kicks him into them, knocking him out
    • Spidey doesn't leave him in the burning building, carrying the villain out
      • Camino saves his son as well

  • Another pointless filler story

Comics Corner: Ka-Zar The Savage 27

  • Dherk, Buth, Zabu, and Ka-Zar enter Shanna's mind in an attempt to restore her sanity
  • Ka-Zar proposes to Shanna

  • You have to read this issue to get the final chapter, but there's no Spider-Man
Oddities
  • In preparation to tak Ka-Zar's body to Aerie Shalan, he ties Shanna to a tree to protect her from herself

Highlights

  • First Frank Miller Daredevil work, with classic retelling of the super hero's origin
  • First appearance of Nurse Wills, and real life mayor, Edward Koch
  • Reference is made to Daredevil 1, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man 24
  • Daredevil can also sense Spider-Man's tracers - Which he tossed on the Masked Marauder's back during their last encounter
Low Points
  • Spider-Man keeps losing his temper about being blind, and throwing fits that destroy people's stuff
Oddities
  • Editor's Day Off: Multiple panels with Spider-Man's lenses colored red
  • Spider-Man is standing on a window ledge, and even though he's blind, still needs to ask Daredevil which way is the roof...Um...Up

Comics Corner: Daredevil The Man Without Fear 27



Title: Daredevil
Issue Number: 27
Release Date: April 1967

Highlights
  • Appearance of Masked Marauder and Stilt-Man
  • Mask Marauder believes someone at Nelson and Murdock knows who Daredevil really is and sends Stilt-Man, who sleeping gases the place, and kidnaps the unconscious Karen, Matt and Foggy
  • Daredevil hears Mask Marauder's heartbeat and realizes he knows his real identity, Frank Farnum
  • Story wasn't bad, makes me want to read more Daredevil issues
Low Points
  • Spider-Man fights Stilt-Man, but the battle ends quickly, making Spider-Man appearance kind of useless
Oddities
  • Daredevil hears a fight and swoops in to lend a hand and Spider-Man is a real jerk to him, telling him to beat it
  • Spider-Man told him to beat it because he doesn't want people to think he needed help - Ego much?

Comics Corner: The X-Men 27



Title: The X-Men

Highlights
  • Puppet Master creates a puppet of Professor Xavier in hopes of taking control of him and the professor instantly denigrates it with a psychic shield
  • Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch make their first appearance in The X-Men since issue 4
  • Professor Xavier asks Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to join the team, they decline because they are full fledged Avengers
  • As Beast and Iceman change into their X-Men garb to stop a robber, they emerge to find Spider-Man has already taken care of the problem for them
  • Spider-Man meets the X-Men (Beast and Iceman) for the first time
  • Beast asks Spider-Man to join the team, but he declines
  • Mimic is invited to join the X-Men team
  • Jean Grey provides the X-Men with redesigned costumes
  • Cyclops steps down as leader of the team and the position is given to Mimic by Professor Xavier
  • Puppet Master creates a puppet of Mimic to control him and Mimic seemingly defeats them all
  • However, they intentionally held back so that Professor Xavier could discover who had tried to control his mind and who was currently controlling Mimic's
Low Points
  • Puppet Master goes a very round about way of trying to defeat the X-Men

Comics Corner: The Amazing Spider-Man 27



Formerly Reading Spider-Man, now officially changed to Comics Corner to allow for all the more titles in the vast world of Comic Books.

  • The informant Patch is really Frederick Foswell in disguise

  • Store bought Spider-Man costumes begin to instantly shrink the moment they get wet
