Not to be mistaken with our original Star Trek post

The original 8 inch line of Mego Star Trek based "dolls" are fantastic pieces of plastic work, and today stand as a fan favorite among Trek and Mego collectors. The line was produced in three waves (or series), and featured two themes.

Series one encompassed a fair amount of the Starship Enterprise crew, but didn't, and would not go on to entail them all. Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scottie were the first four of only five characters to be developed into the line. Lt. Uhura would join them in series two, but the remainder of the line focused strictly on aliens.

When series two was developed, the front of the package was updated to showcase all the new characters available - However, Uhura would be the only (and last) cast member produced.

The remainder of series two was developed under the sub-header, "Aliens". This sub series would also be the only type of figures produced for the third and final wave.

A couple playsets were produced to coincide with the line, and to date remain the most difficult to track down.

Playmates Toys 1998 series of Star Trek: Transporter Series figures had a lot of unique thoughts put into them, and for the most part stands out as a really good line. For starters, the package is so unique when compared to your average bubble package. Of course the downside to this is that they're easily crushed, and mint condition ones can be difficult to track down.

We love the concept of the lower half of each character being clear plastic as if they are truly beaming to or from somewhere. For kids, this would be a great feature - Especially if you had a regular version of the character to swap back and forth. We can only imagine the amount of fun we would have had with these in our younger years - Not that they're not fun now.

Though the majority of the series was released retail wide, there are a handful of figures that were made exclusive to Target. These four can be extremely challenging to track down, and more so to get them at a reasonable price.

Star Trek is definitely no stranger to the toy isle. The franchise has had numerous series since its inception in 1966. We're sure many more toys will follow.

Even we Star Wars fans can appreciate the film for what it was, and yes, we can even walk away saying we were not only entertained, but enjoyed the film.  Not all of us, mind you, but some of us.

When you think ERTL, you probably don't think action figures, and as such, it surprised many when ERTL of all toy manufacturers picked up the rights to produce just that based on Paramount's latest Trek - The Search for Spock.

The series only included four figures, and as far as 3.75 inch figures go they weren't bad.  For their time, they included some great articulation - Rivaled only by the current G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero line.  The real shame for this line is that so few figures were produced.

ERTL shines as a company that produces die cast and/or plastic vehicle related toys, and this is where the line falls apart if you were in it for the figures.  While the vehicles looked great, they were way too small to incorporate any of the figures into them.  Not only that, but from one vehicle to the next, they were drastically out of scale.

The line came and went as quickly as the summer of 1984, and whether it be that ERTL wasn't interested, or wasn't allowed, they didn't produce anything for the follow up Star Trek film in 1986, The Voyage Home.  What's odd is that in 1986, ERTL returned to Star Trek in 1989 for a handful of toys based on the fifth film, The Final Frontier...

ERTL stuck with what it new by the time they released any toys for the fifth Star Trek film, The Final Frontier.  However, try not to get yourself too excited for this line.  Not only did it only contain two toys, they were nothing more than repainted, repackaged versions of two of the three vehicles released for the Search for Spock series.
