I reluctantly return to the well of Matt Johnson, AKA The The. Initially enthralled with The The's debut, Soul Mining, led me to prematurely jump at picking up Johnson's solo 1981 debut, which in hindsight, I wish I would have waited to do. As I made my way through the remaining two 80's albums from The The, things quickly went South, leading me to not have much interest. However, since the purchase was already made, well, here we are.

| Reissued cover under The The |
I've already gone into the history of Johnson, and The The, in my previous posts, so I won't retread that ground. Instead, I'll just dive into the album itself.
Things start out with the instrumental, Red Cinders, and I'll say what I've said before. Instrumentation wise, Johnson knows what he's doing. I was hoping that with this would come the lyrical ambition that I was first introduced to on Soul Mining, versus the straight up blasphemy that would take the lead on Infected, and Mind Bomb.
Maybe it was my mindset at this point, but overall, I just didn't really hear anything that I necessarily needed or wanted in my life. As it played, I honestly felt like I was forcing myself to listen to it, which I suppose to an extent I was.
Mind you, it wasn't a bad listening experience. Like I've said multiple times, the instrumentation is really good. Overall, it's time for me to move past Matt Johnson, and The The. I'm just kind of done with them.
