The Uncanny X-Men (AKA X-Men) (Toy Biz)

The Uncanny X-Men
Toy Biz
1991-1998

When it comes to incredibly large lines, Toy Biz's The Uncanny X-Men certainly stands out as a line to be reckoned with.  In it's eight year span, the series managed to churn out seven series of basic figures, a few vehicles and playsets, and about two hundred figures related to various sub series and gift sets.

Truth be told, Toy Biz's X-Men line is a series we've wanted to tackle here at The Toy Box for a long time.  However, because its so large, and so many X-Men related figures were released during this time period, its difficult to tell which figures in the sub series were actually intended to be connected to the basic line, if any at all, and this is really a best guess effort after several months of research, and a whole lot of photograph work.  While we believe this to be complete, if you don't see something that you feel should be a part of the series, or if you see something you don't think should be here, please let us know what, and why.  Please note that we have not included the X-Force series as while this line started out as a sub series, it really took off on its own as a series unto itself.

We've labeled every photo with its series title, and to help organize everything, with the exception of the basic series which is listed first, everything else is listed in alphabetical order.  All the photos are also date stamped with the year that the particular represented series came out.

It's also important to note that while the series launched as "The Uncanny X-Men" in 1991, by 1994 the series title was shortened to just "X-Men".  The majority of the sub series lines fall under the "X-Men" title.

Without further delay we present to you what we feel is the entire 1990's Toy Biz (The Uncanny) X-Men line!

In closing, if you are a major package variant hunter, then it is worth noting that Canada produced and released several limited two pack sets from the various sub series, and even had their own X-Men/Spider-Man two pack waves.  These sets were limited from 4,000 to 6,000 pieces, and are very difficult to get at reasonable prices.

Join us next time when we take a look at a somewhat continuation of The Uncanny X-Men line with the sub series that turned into its own series, X-Force!

    2. Was there a Jean Grey action figure in her 90’s cartoon show outfit?

  2. A Wonderful representation of this often under appreciated toy line.

I did notice quite a few absence items. Mostly variants and reissues, but a few significant omissions.
I'm sure there are more. However, the scope of Vendor and Region exclusives: as well as the seemingly endless repacks during the 10+ years of Toybiz's empire escapes even me.
Many checklist sites seem complete, but often have numerous missing pieces within even common sets.
They are good starting points for casual collectors, but a diehard completist will often have to fill in the holes themselves. When you think you got them all, a piece you were unaware of will pop up out of nowhere. Between Toybiz's X-men, and Spider-Man lines, you might spend years mastering your collections.

  3. I also forgot the Wolverine Jeep and 4x4(repack of the jeep with Wolverine figure).

It would be neat to finally see a complete visual list of all the Marvel Toybiz 10" figures. Alot of people don't realize that there are well over 100 figures to collect.

    2. Very cool list! I didn't realize there was an extensive line; I have a few from what you mentioned above and some not on it. I'll try to list them when I get a chance. Is there a good site that estimates their value?
      Thanks,
      Nick

    3. Thanks, we'll look for the list. We've been attempting to locate the numerous missing items from the list provided above by the other reader, but it has been difficult to the point of almost futile.

Unfortunately we don't know of any sites that would benefit in terms of estimated values. You could always check ebay for completed listings and come up with an estimated value based on all sales.

    4. I have 90% of the extended list, above. I'll email photos as soon as everything is set up (just moved.. unpacking)

  5. Great page! In recently going through my comics/toy collection, I have a 1997 Gambit (Robot Fighters) without the mouthpiece or antenna: however a hole is in the right ear where this piece should be. No, the piece is not anywhere within the package which is still sealed. I am wondering if this is a variant anyone is aware of.
    Thanks!
    Aaron

  9. Hello, I am putting together a rather comprehensive website of my own consisting of my entire collection of figures from the 90's to present. I thank you for this wonderful reference site. How certain are you of the Basic X-men series line ups? I had to use eBay to put my collection together and it got quite confusing trying to group the figures with their correct series number with all the re-releases and KB Variants out there. Series 1 and 2 are self explanatory, but at 93' it starts to get foggy.

    Thanks

    1. Pretty certain on the basic lines. Gets a bit confusing once the sub series come into play. As you can see from the comment section, there are quite a few missing from the whole series. This post has been a consistent work in progress, but has stalled out due to the difficult nature to track down the missing items.

    2. Thanks, It doesn't help when they are constantly mislabeled on eBay either. I feel I'm very close to being complete with my X-men X-force figures though. I don't have all the Video sticker Variants yet. And like we all know the re-released Series of 1 and 2 with the additional white box Copy right printing tells me they were re-released more than once. Well I'll keep at it then. Let me know if we can help each other out file-ling these things.

    3. You are welcome. If you get any of the boxes stuff that is missing would like photos if you can send them. Just drop a comment with your email address, which won't be published, if you find anything.

  10. Hi, so I grew up with these toys, so I am trying to collect complete sets and I am starting with years. So the 1991 set had the 8 originals. I read something bout the Cyclops (Item 4906) being worth more if it had the Apocalypse trading card inside it. I have looked on Ebay and it is indeed marked up in price. I just cant find anything that stats this to be true. I have said item, and I recently purchased it. I did not pay anymore then $20 for it. Just curious if you could help clear this up for me?

    1. It all comes down to supply and demand. The original Cyclops figure was released with a matching character card. However, a later production run included a version packed with an Apocalypse card. These were produced in lower quantities, resulting in the higher demand by collectors.

As for the current high value, while I see some people asking upwards of $150 to $200, what I don't see is people getting that price for it. As such, I wouldn't put much stock in that. Instead, I would recommend doing further research into what people are actually paying for it.

  11. Hi. First congratulate on the great work, images and information on this page. Second, I wanted to know the difficulty of starting this collection today, I live in Peru (South America) and I have seen a pair of sealed dolls at $ 10-12, others cost three or four times more. I'm interested in collecting open figures (I'm not interested in rarity or variants). Is it possible to collect these dolls or are there some very expensive ones? Should I buy in my country or search on ebay? thank you

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm not familiar at all with the markets in Peru, so I wouldn't be able to help you with that aspect of your question.

Should you head to ebay to buy these, prices will vary. As is the case with all action figures, some are more common than others, regardless of whether or not they are loose or carded. Ultimately though, you may find the most expensive cost to you will be the actual shipping.

    1. Couldn't tell you. However, if you click the Toy Biz label in this post, it will take you to all Toy Biz toys I've posted over the years. You will find several Marvel lines there, but not all of them.

  13. I love this website. I was a big fan of marveltoys.net before it went down several years ago but this website is in many ways easier to navigate. I disagree about excluding the X-Force line though.
One piece that I found several years ago at a garage sale that I did not see listed above is the Weapon X lab (kind of similar to the Kenner Terminator 2 Bio-Flesh Regenerator but this time where adamantium skeletons can be made with the substance included in the set, kind of a playdoh meets X-Men concept).
Thank you for the great work on the website!

Ever since this post went live, more and more items that were missing have been brought to light. Thanks for adding insite on yet another.

Though it has not been updated in a while, this post has not been abandoned. It will get fully updated one day. Until then, keep the list of missing items coming.

  14. Great list! Very comprehensive. Only things that I noticed to be absent was the Generation X & X-Force sub lines, the X-Men vs Street Fighter line of 2 packs, plus the Famous Couples Toys R Us exclusive 2 packs: Cyclops/Jean in X-Factor outfits and Gambit/Rogue in their Age of Apocalypse designs.
