The Walking Dead - Clemintine (McFarlane Toys)

The Walking Dead - Clementine
McFarlane Toys
2014/2015

Telltale Games did an amazing thing in 2012 when they released a game based in the Walking Dead "universe" - They shifted attention back towards the genre of classic point and click adventure games. It was a revitalizing breath of air desperately needed in the dormant genus of play style, and something fans had been waiting for since the end of such classics as Sierra's Space Quest, Kings Quest and Leisure Suit Larry.

The franchise sored into popularity as players assumed the responsibility as guardian of little Clementine. The game not only put players in the role of parental figure to the young child, but also saw them taking on the role as leader for a small group of survivors where every decision counted, and every executed thought resulted in consequences or reward.

Fans ate up the five part downloadable mini series, and eagerly awaited its sequel which finally came in late 2013 as another downloadable mini series. Since then, both have been released on retail game discs, and a third mini series announced.

With such popularity, it was only natural that McFarlane Toys would eventually extend the line of action figures based on the comic book and television versions of Walking Dead characters to the video game - Though for now fans will have to suffice with just one - Clementine...Okay, two if you count the bloody variant version.

Clementine

In terms of sculpt, we can honestly say we've seen much better come from the likes of McFarlane Toys. The facial features on the figure look hollow, as if she's staring off into space. Worst of all, they don't really capture the features of the character. Overall the face just looks generic - Though we're sure this won't stop fans from nabbing them up.

To do so, one would of course have to either hit secondary markets, or go directly to the source as this figure was a Skybound Online Shop Exclusive. At $25.00 per figure, you're looking at a rather steep buy in price. At the time of this writing (December 2014), the figures were still readily available via pre orders at the site.

Will more figures follow based on the Telltale Games characters? We certainly hope so.

The Walking Dead Series 3 (Comic Book Figures) (McFarlane Toys)

The Walking Dead Series 3 (Comic Book Figures)

2014

Much like the post below of The Walking Dead Series Six (Television Series) we were going to wait until much later to post this. Also much like the post below, there's not a whole lot we can say at this point about The Walking Dead that we haven't already covered.

Though the comic book series of figures had a slight stall there at the beginning, and as such hasn't covered as much ground as the television series, it's safe to say at this point that we're sure it will get there.

Much like prior waves, this set also includes a bloody black and white pack which contains Rick Grimes and Andrea.

Typically with the comic book series there aren't a whole lot of offerings once an initial wave such as this hits, so don't expect to see anything else until series four comes about.

The Walking Dead Series 6 (Television Series) (McFarlane Toys)

The Walking Dead Series 6 (Television Series)

2014

We were going to wait, and post this much further down the road (sometime after January of next year). As such, we're sure we'll be updating this one as exclusives and deluxe sets start to hit shelves down the road - Such as they always tend to with this series.

There's not a whole lot we can really add in terms of text to this post that we haven't already said in our numerous Walking Dead posts. Fans of the television series and action figures will be happy to get their hands on this all new sixth series, as well as to hear that a seventh series is also planned.

If there was one thing we had to say was becoming a major disappointment with this series, it would be the oversaturation of Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon figures. There's just too many of them! We get that they're the majority favorites of viewers, but the oversaturation of this character in toy form is a personal turnoff for us. With series six, and the upcoming series seven, it appears that Michonne will also be joining that list of characters that are being produced to abundantly.

Abraham Ford*Carol Peletier*Bungee Walker

Hershel Greene*Rick Grimes*The Governor

For those of you interested in chasing exclusives, Walgreens will once again be offering them. This time around its nothing short of a re-release of figures already out there, and the series is rightfully entitled Flashback.

Daryl Dixon*Michonne*RV Zombie

As we said above, we'll update this post as deluxe sets and exclusives get announced/released if/when they are available.

The Walking Dead Series 2 (Comic Book Figures) (McFarlane Toys)

The Walking Dead (AKA The Walking Dead Comic Book Figures) Series 2
McFarlane Toys
2013

When the success of the television series took off, it really overshadowed the original comic book concept of The Walking Dead, so much to the point that people didn't even know the comic came first. When McFarlane toys first started producing figures, the success of the comic book figures also fell behind that of the television series. As a result, while the television series of figures went on, the comic book versions lagged in limbo with a possible cancellation hanging over it.

Fortunately something changed someone's mind, and series two was put into development.

Two of the better figures from the series were the exclusive The Governor and Negan.

We personally love the comic book so much more than the television series, and we hope that with the recent announcement of series three in the comic book wave of figures that more and more are on the horizon.

The Walking Dead Series 3 - 5 (Television Series) (McFarlane Toys)

The Walking Dead (AKA The Walking Dead Television Series) 3 - 5
McFarlane Toys
2013 - 2014

You can't swing a stick these days without hitting something The Walking Dead related. McFarlane Toys his struck gold with the release of these figures, and we'd wager that the success of the line is probably something the company hasn't seen since the first few series of original Spawn toys. If you don't nab them up when they're first released, chances are you just aren't going to find these on store shelves anywhere - At least not the main characters anyway.

Since our last post on series one and two, the line has grown considerably. Five series in total have been released with series six well into production, and most likely a series seven not far behind it.

SERIES 3
Michonne*Merle Dixon

SERIES 3
Autopsy Zombie*Michonne's Pet 1*Michonne's Pet 2

One of the things we've never personally been thrilled about with McFarlane Toys is its desire to produce variant figures. Much like the first waves of toys, the black and white trend continues in this all new three pack.

SERIES 3

SERIES 4
Andrea*The Governor*Carl Grimes

SERIES 4
Riot Gear Zombie*Gas Mask Riot Gear Zombie

Walgreens of all people got into the act of exclusive figures with their own Rick Grimes figure.

SERIES 4
WALGREENS EXCLUSIVE

We're not fans of repacks, but we commend McFarlane Toys for realizing the supply vs. demand issue and re-releasing the original Daryl Dixon figure from series one, and more importantly, not altering its general appearance. Fans of the first series had tremendous issues tracking down this one particular figure. Meanwhile, secondary markets were cashing in at over a hundred bucks for it.

SERIES 4

SERIES 5

SERIES 5

SERIES 5

***Update***

Just when you think series five is done and over with, McFarlane Toys tosses out one more - Shane with his not so insane look.

SERIES 5
Shane Walsh

The Walking Dead went from that small unheard of comic to the most watched television drama in history. Though we've personally fizzled out on it, it appears that it's going to be around for a long time to come, and with that, we're sure that McFarlane Toys will continue to capitalize on its success as long as possible.

The Walking Dead Series 1 (Comic Book Figures) (McFarlane Toys)

The Walking Dead (AKA The Walking Dead Comic Book Figures) Series 1
McFarlane Toys
2011

As we said in our prior post regarding the television series one and two of The Walking Dead, there is no doubt in our minds that we'll be seeing TWD merchandise for years to come. The television series has spread like wildfire making it AMC's most popular show.

However, it's sad really to see just how few people know that the series started out as a comic book way back in 2003. A comic book that is still producing fantastic stories every month. Not only is it debatably a better story than the television version, but many events have unfolded much differently than what you're seeing on AMC. Not only that, but it's arguable among fans that the comic book is the true story, while the TV series is more of an elseworld telling.

Regardless of where you stand on the matter, McFarlane Toys produced a fantastic set of figures based on the comic book series in 2011.

Officer Rick Grimes*Zombie Roamer
Zombie Lurker*Michonne

The four basic figures (above) were just the tip of the iceberg as far as McFarlane Toys was concerned. Variant exclusives were a massive piece of the sales pie, and McFarlane was eager to cash in from all the fan's bites.

The Walking Dead Series 1 and 2 (Television Series) (McFarlane Toys)

The Walking Dead (AKA The Walking Dead Television Figures) Series 1 and 2
McFarlane Toys
2011 - 2012

The Walking Dead has come a long way from its comic book roots - A comic that many people didn't even know existed until October of 2010 when season one of the TV show premiered. Because there's not much we can say on the subject of the series that fans don't already know at this point, we'll avoid going into any details on the show.

Suffice to say that in 2011, McFarlane Toys teamed with Skybound to develop action figures based on the characters as portrayed in AMC's series. It was a gamble that paid off well when stores across the nation sold out of figures.

Daryl Dixon quickly became the forerunner of rare, and prices soared on secondary markets. At the time of this writing it would cost you anywhere from sixty to one hundred dollars to get one.

***UPDATE***

McFarlane Toys has since rectified the rarity of the original Daryl figure from series one by re-releasing him in a two pack with his brother Meryl. Kudos to McFarlane for providing the supply for the demand as opposed to leaving fans high and dry.

 SERIES 1 (TELEVISION)

Daryl Dixon*Zombie Walker

Toys R' Us received an exclusive black and white version of Rick Grimes which was incredibly limited, and became the second most difficult and expensive figure to find.

Walmart also received a variant package for their line of Walking Dead figures. The packages were slightly smaller than the other retail versions, and included several more warning labels at the top. The figures inside are identical to the other release.

With popularity for all things The Walking Dead growing more and more each day, it was inevitable that a second series of figures would soon hit shelves - Five new figures to be exact.

With how popular The Walking Dead has appeared to become overnight, there's no doubt that we'll be seeing TWD merchandise for years to come.
