Retro Spins: Boy Meets Girls - Reel Word
Waiting For A Star To Fall has always been one of my favorite 80's songs, but yet, I knew nothing about the band behind it - With the exception fo their name. Tracking down their 1988 album, Reel World, was relatively easy, and incredibly cheap. I pulled it from a bin at the used CD shop for a whopping ninety-nine cents.
Let me tell you, after firing the album up, you get about that many cents worth of value from it. It's terrible. Waiting For A Star To Fall is the only redeemable track.
The song was the only real foot note in the duo's career. It debuted in September of 1988 at number eighty-three. By December it had climbed up to number five, where it stay for two consecutive weeks before beginning its drift back down.
Bring Down The Moon debuted on the charts in January 1989 at number eighty-two, and eventually went to number forty-nine. However, no other tracks from the album manged to garner any attention and the group essentially faded into obscurity with the 90's.
It's worth noting that the majority of the tracks aren't necessarily bad. They're just no performed well enough by Boy Meets Girl. I dare say if some of these tracks were sung by Madonna, or even Prince, they would have been rather successful. Sounds weird, I know.
Overall, as a whole, the album is rather forgettable. Still for the price of a single, the value was there, I guess.
