Comics Corner: Daredevil 103

Title: Daredevil
Issue Number: 103
Release Date: September 1973

Highlights

  • First appearance, and origin of Ramrod
  • Reference is made to Daredevil issue 100 and Marvel Team-Up issue 12
  • Ramrod makes an offhanded reference to Superman
Low Points
  • Continuation from Marvel Team-Up 12
  • Didn't particularly want to read a non-related Spider-Man title to continue a story that wasn't too good to begin with
  • Only serves to show that Marvel Team-Up issue 12 was a throw away story with the only purpose being to establish that Peter Parker was in San Francisco
Oddities
  • Ramrod loses his grip and falls just from seeing Black Widow is alive (he threw her off a building earlier), and that's the end of the story
Rating (based on a 1 through 5 Stans grading system)

Order Of Battle: Daredevil: The Man Without Fear

Due to the increasing size of my comic book collection, I have found it necessary to not only break them up by title, but for some of the larger series, by groups. This will be an ongoing post of my Marvel published Daredevil titles, as I obtain them. All photos are actual scans.

Comics Corner: Daredevil The Man Without Fear 1

Title: Daredevil The Man Without Fear
Issue Number: 1
Release Date: April 1964

Highlights
  • First appearance of Matt Murdock / Daredevil, Foggy Nelson, Karen Page, Battling Jack Murdock (Matt's father), The Fixer, Slade and Lt. Bert Rose
  • Origin of Daredevil
  • Daredevil wears his original yellow and black costume
Low Points
  • Having only been exposed to the Ben Affleck movie and Netflix television series, it feels wrong that the comic depicts Matt Murdock as a teenager, and not a young kid - In fact the entire way his origin unfolds feels like it's incorrect, even though it's the original source material
Oddities
  • After getting beat down, one of the many foes Daredevil just bested says, "Nobody can fight like that. He must do it with mirrors!!" Hmm...I didn't know reflections in mirrors could hit you
  • Karen Page is referred to as a decorative accessory in the office
Rating (based on a 1 through 5 Stans grading system)

  • Mask Marauder believes someone at Nelson and Murdock knows who Daredevil really is and sends Stilt-Man, who sleeping gases the place, and kidnaps the unconscious Karen, Matt and Foggy
  • Daredevil hears Mask Marauder's heartbeat and realizes he knows his real identity, Frank Farnum
  • Story wasn't bad, makes me want to read more Daredevil issues
Low Points
  • Spider-Man fights Stilt-Man, but the battle ends quickly, making Spider-Man appearance kind of useless
Oddities
  • Daredevil hears a fight and swoops in to lend a hand and Spider-Man is a real jerk to him, telling him to beat it
  • Spider-Man told him to beat it because he doesn't want people to think he needed help - Ego much?

Comics Corner: Daredevil The Man Without Fear 17

Title: Daredevil The Man Without Fear

Low Points
  • Spider-Man continues to fight first, ask questions later - Really makes him look like a hard head
