The Future Of The Toy Box

By this point, meaning May, of any other year, I would have wrapped up an entire year of scheduled posts, and been well into posting for the following year. However, that just isn't the case with 2021.

The truth of the matter is that I am running out of content to post here. Well, content as it pertains to documenting toy lines. Twelve years is a long time to compile a lot of posts, and you just reach a point where you're scraping the bottom of the barrel. Don't get me wrong, I by no means have covered every toy line out there, but realistically, I can't, and don't want to.

Sure, there are still some toy's I'd like to post about, the original G1 Trasnformers for example. I compiled a post on the original 1984 line, but never continued from there. The reason being, they were far too difficult to track down. I've started and stopped a post on 1985+ so many times because it's just too time consuming. Ten years ago I probably would have had that kind of time at my disposal, but these days, not so much. I think that's what it all really comes down to. I don't have time to put together massive posts that take months to research and days to compile.

Now, don't get me wrong here. This is not my fifth retirement speech. Nor do I really plan on taking a hiatus from this Blog. Instead, 2022 is going to see a shift in the content. Rather than post about a toy line in general, which I may still do, my main focus is going to be on the toys I own, but as individual items.

Meaning you're going to see content featuring a showcase of one specific figure, photographing all sides of it, accessories, and sharing my thoughts and comments on it, not necessarily from a review standpoint, but why I specifically wanted it, or what memories I had as a child from owning it before. I'd really like to also incorporate some of my art into each post as well. So for example, if I do a post on Breaker from G.I. Joe, which I will, I would not only include photos of the figure, but a drawing I create for the character. Basically, I'm trying to make this site more personal to me than just a generic dumping ground for cataloging toys I may or may not even care about.

In addition to toy posts, I also intend on keeping my Retro Spins going. Those are actually the ones I do have complete and are scheduled far in advance. I actually have posts through August of 2024 already, and intend on keeping this going until I've listened to and reviewed every album I own. Again though, this is time consuming, and while I have my intentions, I don't know what reality will bring with it. You have to keep in mind that your average forty minute album plus review is at least one hour of time spent.

Lastly, I'd like to get back into reading Spider-Man comics, and posting about them. This is something in particular that has taken a back seat as time has become more limited. The last issue I read was The Amazing Spider-Man 105, and I still have yet to crack the surface of Marvel Team-Up, and branch off into series such as The Spectacular Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man and (McFarlane) Spider-Man. There's just not enough time in a day.

So, bottom line, 1) Things are changing in 2022, 2) Blog will still be here. 3) Hope to see you. 4) Until then, things will stay the course as usual through December.

  1. That's what's great about having a blog. You are, essentially, your own boss with 100% creative control. Looking forward to the new content and the drawings, too!

    1. For now. I admittedly have been trying out the new format I mentioned, and I don't know if it works for me. It's just as time consuming.
